Incorrect Subcooling & Its Effects

Advanced

Subcooling set wrong — too high or too low — causes capacity loss, floodback, and callbacks.

Subcooling isn't a number to hit and forget. Wrong subcooling starves or floods the metering device and distorts every other reading.

Too high

Overcharge or a restriction stacks liquid in the condenser, raising subcooling and starving the evaporator (high superheat).

Too low

Undercharge or flash gas delivers vapour to the metering device, dropping capacity and causing bubbles at the sight glass.
